autoplay missing?

When i put my game in my drive, nothing comes up(mechwarrrior 4). I click autoplay on the drive and get the message:
"Windows cannot find autoplay.exe"
Did i lose that program from windows somehow? if i did, how do i get it back?]
Please help. thanks.

btw, another game autoplays when i put it in. but after I exit the autoplay menu and try to load it again, I get: windows has encountered an error. I eject and put it back in, autoplay comes up. weird.

Go to Control Panel > Disc Detector and turn on "Enable Disc Detector".

Can't seem to find this in Windows XP

I go to My Computer, right-click on the Drive Icon and choose "properties" and then the "auto-play" tab.

I'm using Win2kPro... No Control Panel in XP?... Try Start > Settings > Control Panel.

There's a Control Panel but no "Disk Detector"

I remember "Disk Detector" being a part of Easy CD Creator 4.0 a few years ago.

Go to My Computer, right-click on the Drive Icon (D,E, ?) and choose "properties" and then the "auto-play" tab.

the drive is not accessing the autoplay.exe on the disk. It doesn't know where to look or something. It is supposed to change the drive icon when autorun starts and that ain't happening either. Is there any services that need to be running or configurations that i need to make?

Why is there no autoplay tab?????GRRRRRR.... here is the error:

Faulting application autoplay.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module autoplay.exe, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x000032f4.

thanks for your help; i'll try this sometime.
For now, i think i might just leave it disabled for now; autoplay is annoying anyway. here's where i learned to turn it off: autoplay
