Autopatcher alternative?

Hi all,

Having been using Autopatcher since the Windows XP SP2 first came out, maybe even earlier than that. However, recent years, Autopatcher seems to be less active and their software do have some error sometimes. So does anyone have suggestion for alternative software that is free, but also do similar thing that Autopatcher do, which download the patches from Microsoft?

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thank you for reading.

Hi,

Thank you Bubbaleone and rasczak for the suggestions. Will try them all out to see which one is better. I think I have tried to use WSUS previously, but that was couple years ago too.

Thanks again.

I've been using Autopatcher for years with Windows XP machines. AP has been great and it includes many desirable registry tweaks.

As I write this, the Autopatcher site is flagged as an attack site by Google and Firefox. I blocked all scripts prior to going to the site. Reading the Autopatcher forum it seems the moderators aren't able to clean the site. Still the Autopatcher program, APUP, and the downloaded files are clean.

Until today I wasn't aware of PortableUpdate but I'm very happy to know about it. For Windows 7 and later I am switching to PortableUpdate. Autopatcher never seemed to work that well for Windows 7.
