Will you fail inspection if adding a aftermarket turbo kit onto your car? If yes, is there ways to get around it....besides paying off the inspector...

what sort of inspection. just emissions?

we dont have inspection here really. well sort of, but no checkup/emissions, just upon importation - so i have no idea

Well in Texas we have inspections due every once in a while... this consist of how much carbon monoxide your automobile is releasing, how dark your tint is, your tire condition, all your blinkers... etc etc etc....

Basically I want to invest in an aftermarket turbo kit for my little 91 crx project car... BUT, I do not want to take this project on if its not going to pass me for inspection.

I believe as long as the car produces less than a specific threshold amount of the bad emissions (and I think that is specific to model year) it will pass emissions, no matter what you have done to it. And really, if your ECU was reprogrammed correctly, you shouldn't have too much of an issue passing. Personally, I'd say go out and buy this stuff called "Guarranteed to Pass" at your local car parts store. Dump it in a full tank of gas, and almost drive the thing dry, then get it inspected. Also, changing your plugs and wires can't hurt either. Then less unburned fuel in your exhaust, the better chance you have.

There are certainly smog-legal turbo kits (Greddy, etc.) Not sure how that works for your smog laws in TX. In cali of course passing the sniffer isn't good enough.

If your turbo kit was a bolt on and you didn't have to lower compression of your engine, there is a really good chance your car will pass emissions anyhow.

Depends on the turbo setup itself. A 'kit' is probably fine. My custom setup CAN be legal, but it depends on how much boost and how the extra fuel injectors are running.

Also, in California, you're f'd.

inspecition... ha! You guys and your silly state regulations.

Shouldn't be a problem - if you remove your catalytic converter - you may have troubles - I've passed without one before. If I failed - I used a product called RXP - and passed everytime.

Technically speaking they could fail you for it, since you're altering the engine and the part isn't emissions certified. But realistically you'll pass emissions and they'll never know about the mods.
