Hi,

Does anyone have recomendations for car audio, or experience with car audio that is pc-like?

I bought a Land Rover, and need a sound system. I would like something that has usb capabilities, as well as a screen, and perhaps able to run programs for the pc.

Does such a thing exist? I have seen the D-I-Y micro computers that people build inside their cars using the Cyrix CPUs.

What exactly do you mean by pc like sound? By some standards that would be considered awful.

Step 1: Put in a request to Pimp-My-Ride.
Step 2: Realize you won't make it onto Pimp-My-Ride.
Step 3: Save up some $$.
Step 4: Save up some more $$$.
Step 5: Repeat Step 3, and 4.

Now. Ready to spend tons of cash?

When it comes to car audio what I see most people doing these days that are afraid to go extreme, are a nice DVD-quality surround sound speaker system, with a nice xxxxW subwoofer. This in itself can cost a lot of money if you aren't willing to put in the labor yourself to do.

For what you're looking for it sounds like you want to hook up a Logitech Speaker set to your Land Rover, and cram in a laptop in some manner.

i've seen a laptop attached to a car and the guy used itunes to select and play music through the car's speakers

or a decent all around car system can consist of a rockford fosgate amp and rockford fosgate speakers/subs all around... or check out other reknown car audio manufactuers

I'm lucky enough to have access to a Kicker Solo-X18, running at a constant 7kW 60 Hz signal. What I mean is it's plugged into a wall outlet. I wish I could have it in my car though :(. BOOYAH!

Thank you for the replies.

I have seen some dc/dvd/mp3/mpg4/divx/xvid/usb all-in-one units that have a motorized touch screen on eBay. I was curious about some of the items that don't seem to have a name like this rather unique device on eBay
that does navigation, is a CarPC, plays CDs DVDs, has an SD slot, and is a touchscreen.

I was wondering if anyone has seen something similar, or bought something like this?

I like the idea of this all in one device, especially with the navigation, and ability to play music cds or dvds.

Land Rovers (older series models) are not built with comfort in mind, so there are not too many places I can add this to. I would need to get a cubby tough box to replace the middle seat in the front and then drop this into.
