Automating a Tape Backup

Anybody know of a decent program to do network backups under Windows NT 4 Server? I have to backup network volumes to a SCSI tape drive for work, and it needs to happen every day after everyone leaves.

how much are you willing to spend and is it DLT tape or some other brand tape drive?

You can use BU exec from Veritas "used to be seagate" Or depending on the DAT you buy it might come bundled with some pretty good SW already. From what we have seen here at work the HP autoloaders have decent HP SW bundled with.

It is a fairly new Seagate tape drive. I don't know how much we're willing to spend, but it is a relatively simple task. The drives are mappend to windows drive letters anyway, so the program doesn't even have to be network aware. I need something to backup a set of drives on a certain day of the week, another set for another day, etc. I would like it if you possibly gave we a website with your recommendation. I'd also like it if there were a trial version that I could use first.

I'm not sure if you've heard of novaback fron www.novastor.com, but it backs up the volumes to tape without a problem, and it has a scheduler, but the same procedure that works when run immediately doesn't end up working when it is put in the scheduler. It comes up with the copying screen at the correct time, but it doesn't actually copy any files.

I'd be thankful for any help.

I would definetely recommend ArcserveIT. I use it and it has never failed me yet. I used to be a big Seagate BU exec fan, but that was back in my Netware days. On NT, Arcserve is a much better package.

The software doesn't even have to be real network backup software, just a good tape program with a schedule. As I said the drives on the network have been given drive letters anyway, so any windows program should be able to access them just like a local drive.
