Automatic transmissions

It seems that more and more cars these days are sold with automatic transmissions only. I think 90% of all cars sold come with autos. In 10 years all cars will be "auto" (ie no transmission 🙂) if they use electric motors. Do you see this as a good or bad thing?

who cares

cars that should have manuals in them will continue to have them in them.

OH NO! no manual in a civic?!?! who cares
mustangs/jeeps/etc etc will continue with manuals for a long time

Once CVT technology smooths out and catches on, and people realize that you get better gas milage and better accelleration than with a five speed, manual transmissions will be a niche product marketed in specific vehicle classes.

"Enthusiasts" cars will be about the only things offered with the manual transmission.

The manual transmission is on it's way out in passenger cars.

i put good. becuase i like them
I really like to drive to stick-- becuase its a lot of fun, but i'd go crazy if i had to deal with all that shifting all the time in stop and go traffic around town

If you don't care, then why did you waste your time posting in the thread?

"good" meant you thought its a good think that manual trannies are on their way out 😉

It depends on the driver. If you prefer driving a car with manual transmission then that's better. It's a little less boring to drive a stick than an auto... If you don't care much for cars though, automatic is fine.

I know with electric cars you don't need to do things like "neutral drops" since the torque is all there from the beginning, and they'd be the perfect setup as long as regenerative braking doesn't come on until you're coasting downhill or actually stepping on the brakes. They should also have a "neutral" setting where the car doesn't creep or do any regenerative braking when its in that setting. That'd be great...

However, with gas engines automatics sort of suck for fun, since you can't do neutral drops, its harder to do 360's cause the wheels are always turning, etc.. you know that stupid stuff us teenagers do 😉

bah the perfect car would be one that could be used in either auto or manual "mode" and would require no clutch(just use the stick and it shifts normally)
