Automatic or Manual for driving lessons?

Over here you have to take driving lessons if you want to get your license in less time than without the lessons.
I was wondering, should I pay extra to take the lessons in manual or just go with automatic. I plan on driving a manual for my first car which I'll be buying in a couple months when I get my license, but would also taking driving lessons in manual really make me a better driver? Or is it just a waste of money, seeing as how I'll learn it on the car anyways. I know the basics of it already, just don't really have any practical experience.

How much more is it to pay for the manual lessons? I would probably just teach myself manual and go w/ automatic lessons, but if its not that much more, you should get the lessons for manual.

Yeah, if the additional money is an insignificant amount, go for the manual. A good driver can teach you a lot more than just the basics.

I learned on a manual (my mom taught me, actually) and I'm glad I did.

Prices are...

Automatic transmission (16 x 45 minutes in car, theory etc...)
$390

Combination program: (16 x 45 min automatic, 2 x 45 minutes standard, theory etc...)
$440

Standard course (18 x 45 minutes in car, theory, etc...)
$485

Automatic Lesson: Seems overkill on the amount of driving.....In 2 sessions you could easily learn an Automatic. Wouldn't recommend it.

Combination: $50 more seems too much for me to get 1.5 hours of driving in a manual rather than an automatic. Wouldn't recommend it.

Standard: I think that you should go w/ this......you'll have enough time to learn stick well, and I think it's worth the money.

Standard. Just do it. I know it's 20-25% more money, but it's well worth it. After 18 sessions, you'll be driving like a pro (well, almost).

thx for the replies.. I think I'll go with the standard lessons :)
Don't want to end up like my friend either ;)
He took automatic courses but drove a stick.. he is one of the worst drivers I know. Thankfully he went and sold the stick and got himself an automatic protegay.

Why would you want to drive a stick anyway? I never have gotten why anyone would want to do extra work to shift the gears.

how much does it cost to change a clutch? $95 for parts close at all? I wouldn't be surprised if they ahd to put in a new one every time with some of the idiots i've seen.

Those prices seem high to me. Maybe i'm wrong but i thought that i paid 100 less for auto(only choice) when i did it 3 years ago

I love driving my car. It's a manual. I think it's more fun and makes the ride seem like it's more "sporty," I guess. I only have a Cavalier, so it's not very fast, but having the stick makes it more interesting.

Cause it'd be more fun, and I could do stupid things like burnouts that I couldn't do on an auto. Manual transmissions are a lot tougher so I can abuse it ;)

Good move. :)

Besides, its like riding a bike. Once you learn, you're never too old to crash. :p
