Or is it even possible at this point? i.e. is there an extension or 3rd party add on to get this going?
 
Isn't that Options, Privacy, History? I don't want or use autocomplete so I don't know if this is want you want or if it will do it for you.

I don't think that will do it. I used to get it with Google Toolbar. I found a version that's supposed to support FF 3 and will set it up.
