I got to hop around town in a supercharged E46 last month. I don't think I could ever get bored of that monster. But I would never, ever put that much money into it when I could get a v10 m5.

Fully agreed, I've driven 2 M3's now at dealerships, one with the SMG tranny and the other with the standard 6 speed manual. I honestly wasn't very excited by either, too many flashy little things like the tach changing colors once you reach a certain RPM and a lack of power IMO.

I'm going to drive an M5 soon hopefully, that should have the torque I'm looking for
