AutoCAD question.

I have AutoCAD R14 with the tutorial CD. I haven't learned the program as I had intended. I'm going to start learning it by creating a floor plan of my home. I see that there is now a version of the program for Architectual applications. For a beginner like me, how is the R14's learning curve and should I try to get a newer version?
Thanks.

You're OK with R14. Newer versions don't add anything crucial, they are no easier to learn, and everything you learn in R14 will still be valid with newer versions.

The learning curve is moderately steep, less so if you have manual drafting experience and therefore already know CAD basics. Regardless, you are not going to be proficient after 1 weekend or anything like that. At the engineering firm where I work, it usually takes several weeks to bring a new-hire CAD tech up to speed, and that's just learning the way WE do it, they already know the CAD program.

Have fun and good luck! 🙂
