Autobahn

"Recommended" Speed limits of 130, unregulated in many areas, wildlife fences and tunnels, better maintained and less fatalities than north american highways... damn, I'd love to drive on these one day :Q

Yes it is fun to drive the autobahn. I had the cruise control set on my 1990 grand-am at 100MPH all the time.

Speed limits in a blue circle means that is the minimum speed you are required to go. It is usually 120-160 KMH. Munich to Zurich is a great drive.

You need the autobahn to drive that speed? I drive that all the time on I-35 and 635.........

And you are posting this from the county jail, right?

can't have one in the us, because we can't drive. we as in the us in general, when you have people that just decide to change lanes with out signaling and looking, that would be aweful.

We used to have an autobahn in Montana. I used to take my 97 neon up there and let her rip to 110MHP, until I wrecked her last January, driving under 30.

umm..Autobahn meens highway in german...errr...Car Road...but that's ok...so yes you would hav esome of those in america, and even some in montana.

Well, when you force the kiddies to wait 2 more years to get their license at 18, and make them go through a year-long series of difficult tests costing over $1,000, then we might just have better drivers that could handle the autobahn.

My uncle was in Germany a few years back.
He said that he was driving 90mph in the slow lane people were honking and flashing as he was going too slow. 🙂

No, you don't understand...

For a few years in the 90's Montana removed all speed limites from the highways outside of cities...

During the day, you could drive 160 MPH if it was safe...

The only rule was, if a cop saw you driving in a manner that was unsafe (swerving around trucks for exmaple) he could pull you over...

Why'd they do away with that law? I had the notion to travel to Montana, find a place that rents porches or something... and just let it rip.

Crappy law makers... cancelling all the fun laws.

the federal govt said they'd take away their federal highway money unless they changed it 🙁

Autobahn rules! I formerly drove 50 km, of which 35 km was on A-45, one way to work. Usually drove between 90-110 MPH going and about 85 MPH coming from. Definitely stay in the right lane if you can't run with the big dogs.

130 KPH or 81 MPH is the "recommended" speed. On some stretches there are mandatory speed limits.

Was once riding with a German Air Force Captain traveling about 230 KPH/140 MPH in a Porsche. Some dude on a Kawasaki passed us. 😛

hey, that reminds me of when I was cruising in 170km/h on Autobahn and was passed by some guy on an Off-road MC
LOL 😀
Riding in Jeans. His jacket was like a baloon. LOL

<< I so wish we had one in the US....too bad insurance companies would prevent it from ever happening. >>

Yeah, and the ironic thing is that the Autobahn is *safer*! Wildlife protection helps too, less roadkill accidents.

Getting a license shouldn't cost a sh!tload of money, but it SHOULD be difficult to get. It's a joke here.. the driver's handbook doesn't even say anything about right-of-way when you reach a stop at the same time nor does it say what to do in an accident.. all you have to do to get your learner's is to pass a easy knowledge test and to get your full license all you have to do is show the saaq that you can drive in a straight line and turn. Wow!

THIS is the reason cars are so dangerous here in NA. My aunt got hit the other day on a divided highway by someone ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY! Can you believe that??? Her car was completely totalled, but she walked away with only a sprained arm, luckily.

I have to say that people on Autobahn drive like kamikaze pilots! They do not drive well.
I am prepared to take a bashing for this, probably many Germans here 😉

I remember when Montana had that law, bummer they got rid of it 🙁

I don't see why Whyoming doesn't do that, I mean C'mon the entire state has less people then a average city.

You haven't lived until you've barrelled down the autobahn in a Fiat Panda with a cloth sunroof, everything vibrating like mad, half-expecting Scotty to pop out his head and say "I kinna keep 'er together, Cap'n" and realize you're only doing about 90mph.

Is it true that when you buy a BMW you buy the privelege to drive in the passing lane no matter how fast you are going.
