Autoalign Icons in WinXP

How do I turn this off? My work computer has it set to automatically allign icons on the left in columns. Even when I try to move them, they go right back.

Right click > "Arrange Icons By" > uncheck "Auto Arrange"

I think that's what you mean, anyway.
