I dont know if this deal is exclusive to my region but it is hotttt.

$30 gets you 5 qts fully synthetic Mobil 1 oil and a mobil 1 filter.

Don't come into this thread stating castrol GTX is better cause it is off topic trolling =)

I'm gonna stock up on a few "sets"

Thanks, calling shops to see how much they charge for the service. Hopefully it'll be less than $70 total for my oil change >.>

I drive an 03 Ford Focus. I pay 19.95 at Jiffy Lube for the cheap dinosaur oil 😀

This is good though for you guys that use the fancy stuff 😀

I dont see this advertised on thier website. Where did you get this info because I need a oil change badly :-(

"Okay called and it is in effect in NYC. Thanks OP"

Okay I just saved $40. The deal is good until 8/22/11

Lots of shops offer a teaser oil change rate, chance to look over the car and suggest more repairs etc. Not bad, but don't let it get in the way of finding a GOOD independent mechanic regardless of deals.

well worst thing i think oil change place do is not drain all the oil and putting cheap ass oil filter on (if they even give you a new one =) ) .. even if you dont have a house you can change your oil on the street.. just drive your car on the curb or use a jack.. Ive never paid to have oil change done my whole life. thanks for teh hot deal ima

True, there's no excuses, you can change your oil pretty much anywhere. I even did it at previous apartment complexes I've lived at. I always do it on the side of the street too, just make sure you have level ground for obvious reasons. I don't trust the oil places, plus I think they use crappy cheap oil and I've heard a lot of horror stories like they forget to put the plug back in, they forget the filter, they don't change the filter, etc...

Don't forget to get one of those jaws-of-life oil filter removers from harbor freight. One time I was changing my oil and couldn't get the old filter off because I only had one of those plastic filter removers. In a stroke of luck, I had my aunt's car nearby so I just drove that to harbor freight and picked up one of the filter removers that digs in tight and can get any filter off with ease.

Don't overtighten your filters in the first place and you won't have these problems 😛

I'd rather have it overtightened than have it fall off in the middle of driving. That was more in the beginning of me doing my own oil changes anyways. Live and learn. I even dip my finger in oil and rub it around the rubber gasket ring to make sure it doesn't get stuck on there.

Every filter I've seen says to do that. It is to lubricate the gasket so it doesn't twist or deform while tightening the filter, causing a leak.

I'll give you 4 more worsts;

Wrong amount of oil, too much or too little (counts as 2). My car takes 8.5 qts with a filter, and I've seen oil fill guys get confused and put in 10 qts (both 5 qt jugs I supplied along with specific instructions on how much to use), or one guy wrote it up as +3.5 qts and all they put in was 3.5 qts (got a new engine out of that).

Cross thread the drain plug. Fail to put in the plug straight and it messes up threads and leaks.

Fail to replace the one time use crush washer on drain plug, oil leaks.

They must try awfully hard to cross thread a drain plug. With the well lubricated threads it is easy to put it in by hand until the final bit.

None of the 3 cars I have had have required any sort of one-time use crush washer to be replaced. I don't know how common it is to have one, so it wouldn't surprise me if others didn't know that your car needed some seal replaced each time. What kind is it?

Wow.. the fail is so strong with those scenarios. How hard was it to get a new engine out of them?

Or this,

I take mine to the dealership since they give me a good deal for the change. Plus, I get a car wash out of it, drive 100 miles each way and visit friends in the process. Yes, I love driving so it's worth the 200 miles hahaha. It's $39 for 5 qts of Mobil 1 synthetic oil + filter. For 3k+ miles or 4-5 months, it's worth it 🙂

The only unknown is that they could be like the above video but the dealership has a good reputation so I'm betting on that. Southcoast Mitsubishi 🙂

i've used cheap oil forever, never an issue. i think full synths are a waste of money, especially if you lease or plan to get a new car within 10 years. likely something else will fail long before the engine does regardless which you use.

I have driven 31k miles in the last 11 months and have 143k miles on my truck now. I plan on driving it beyond 200k, so I figure a few extra bucks for better protection is worth it.

maybe, but i once did around the 231,000 miles mark on my 95 Blazer. i changed oil 2-3 times a year, seasonal basically only cause thats just how i was. I used only cheap oil that at the time costed about 90 cents a quart i think. I believe it was Car Quest brand. Filters i got was at Autozone, whatever was cheaper.

When i traded it in, it still ran like brand new, never an issue there. The body was rusted, muffler long fell off, 4 wheel drive didnt work...etc but i'll be damned if it didnt start up instantly.
Plus considering how many cars lasted forever long before full synthetics came available, i have no reason to believe Synth is really going to make a detrimental difference in most any vehicle.
