Auto sensing uplink?

I bought a DLink DGS-2208 8Port switch. I noticed that it did not have an uplink port, so I made a crossover cable to plug it into my router to expand the number of ports the router had. This did not work. I then used a normal cable, and it worked perfectly. Can these switches tell that they need to use a port like this? Or how did this work?

Thanks,
Dave

Giga Ports are Auto sensing (MDX) as part as the Giga port's standard.

as Jack said, giga ports are Auto sensing and will work correctly with either a straight through or crossover cable. The reason your crossover cable probably didn't work is because you made it yourself..
