Auto Rotate for Windows Picture & Fax Viewer?

Is there any way to make Windows Picture & Fax Viewer auto rotate portrait style photos during viewing? I tried out ACDSee, but found it a bit slow...I just need a simple picture viewer. Also, there's a warning that the picture might be degraded if you manually rotate the picture in Windows Picture & Fax Viewer, is that true? Thanks in advance.

AFAIK, Picture and Fax Viewer should already auto-rotate your pictures based on exif data.

You might try Windows Live Photo Gallery though. Very decent photo viewer with simple editing.

If it's warning you that your photos might be degraded, then your best bet would be to find a lossless editing program. ACDSee fits that bill, but it looks like you're having issues there w/ it. There might be a setting in Picasa that does auto-rotation; I'm pretty sure there is (seems like I had to dig around to find out how to turn it off ages ago).

I have auto rotation in my camera - so when I off load the pics, they are already rotated.

This is quite strange. I went back and looked at all my pictures, and realized they ARE all auto-rotated. However, what made me come on the boards to seek advice is this particular set of photographs taken by another photographer...I guess he didn't have auto-rotate turned on in his camera (Canon 1DS-MK3)? I would've assumed auto-rotate in-camera was turned "on" by default...oh well...thanks for all the suggestions. :)

In windows XP it wouldn't, so I used to use Irfanview with auto-rotate turned on. I don't remember what happens under Vista.

Of course, if there's no EXIF data in the images regarding the orientation, then you are outta luck(e.g. My trusty ol' F717).
