AUTO-REBOOT / MSI K7T266 PRO2 / ATHLON 1800

I'm having some problems with my computer auto-rebooting while I'm working.

Here is the scenario (Main Problem):
In OutLook Express viewing some mail... I hear a faint hum and the computer reboots. Sometimes it will fully reboot, and other times I have to turn off the computer after it tries to reboot, hit the power switch and then hit the reset button. If I don't hit the reset button, the monitor will not give me a green light and the hard drives don't seem to run either.

So, It's really not a computer FREEZE-UP, but rather the whole computer cutting off on a random schedule.

Recently... I can only have OutLook Express open for 15 seconds before OutLook Express Crashes. I have to say, I have much MBs of email stored up, but I don't think that is the problem. I successfully backed up all the Outlook Express dbx files, so a reinstall is possible.

Could the problem be:
processor temp? (ave temp= 100F - 122F)
DDR memory?
bios?
software corruption?
power flux in the power supply?
USB?

I'm lost for a solution. Has anyone else experienced this same type of behavior?
:disgust:

Are you overclocking anything? Vid card, memory, CPU? That can lead to instability. I have Win2K but I assume what I am about to tell you will be the same for XP.

Right click My Computer, click on properties. Click on the Advanced tab, go to Start Up and Recovery. Look for the area that says 'System Failure' and see if the check is on 'Automatically reboots'. If it is, uncheck it. See if that works.

From what it sounds like you built your own system. Did you build it by adding each hardware component one by one? If not then software/drivers corruption seems likely.

Is only Outlook Express giving you problems?

Good luck!

try pulling out optional cards and troubleshooting but it sounds like you need to try another power supply
