auto glass

some jackass broke my rear windshield and I'm taking it to the shop tomorrow. Are some brands better than others (other than OEM) ?

The shop will make more of a difference than the glass IMHO. A good shop won't recommend a bad piece of glass and a bad shop can make a good piece of glass leak like crazy.

Take dated photos of the paint and the trim around the glass. I had some damage after my windshield was replaced. Fortunately, my mechanic (who outsourced the work) fixed me up.

Hell, yes there is a difference. OEM is typically better. Some aftermarket brands are okay and even comparable.

What kind of vehicle is it?

lots of shops use chinese glass as the market is flooded with them..

If you want something made in the US, check out PPG (Pittsburgh Plate Glass), or Pilkington Glass (UK). They aren't much more expensive than the chinese glass.

That's what I would have recommended. Or Carlite. Ford uses Carlite. GM uses PPG.
Dodge's OEM glass maker is escaping me right now.

I have a subaru. There are no dealers here so I just told safelite to put their glass on there because I want the car back. Oh well.

My legacy side windows at least has a slight tint built into them, so when some jackass broke into my car, I ordered an oem piece from a dealer.
