Let me start off saying that my expectations where not to high for this game. I've read some peoples beta experinces and some painted a negative picture about this game. Yet I decided to give this game a shot inorder to get my own perspective. So I picked it up the other day since I had time to spare.

Well lets say I started playing around 4:00pm PST and ended up playing untill 12:00am PST ! This game truely is a fun alternative to the dominate fantasy sword, magic and elves genre in MMORPGs. The combat can be very fast and very fun. The game enviroment like buildings, barrels, fences, and other things are totally destructable which is fun ! Watching a oil barrel blow up while a group infantry is standing next to it is fun !

The game's leveling system is geared toward completing missions. You can gain XP by grinding off mobs but it's just faster to level up via missions. There are lots of classes to choose from and the spec system reminds of Diablo 2 but you can spec anywhere in a spec tree without having to unlock lower level skills from what I have been told and seen.

Now the crafting system is another area that shines because it has a deep crafting system and you gain crafting gear via salavage from dead enemies. Crafting allows you to make your own weapons, armor, tires, etc.... I've haven't tried the PvP system since I have not competed in PvP Arenas ( ala Guild Wars ) but I am sure it should be fun. Also the game has a built in voice chat for groups which is great ! For those of you who are shy, or who have high pitch voices....Yes you can use text chat in groups but why ?? :p Overall this game is fun...fun....fun ! Auto Assault is a great alternative to other styles of MMORPG's as I've stated above.

I haven't played planetside so I can't say it's like that game. It's not a fps it's more like PS 1 Twisted Metal gameplay + Fallout theme world + Guild Wars PvP system + MMORPG = Tons of fun. I don't know if there is a demo or not.

Crafting is pretty complex and really I wouldn't bother untill end levels. Also try to focus on a few key skills rather then spreading it out. Maybe have 1 spec skill and 1 racial spec skill and save your points up. The devs have said they will put in a respec command soon so if you want to goof around you can.

Let me know your impressions once you get to the 2nd/3rd world map. The first area is very fun. But it dies down so fast after that.

I played it during the beta weekend too.. i'm not sure how "impressed" and Auto Assault go into the same sentence... I thought the game was pretty horrible. It's another cookie cutter with cars... the game is so simple it's not even funny.... it's like being on rails, get quest, follow the arrow... so you replace a sword with a machine gun and make the elf have wheels instead of long ears. Challenge makes a game fun, not a change of scenery and AA is just one big yawn.

WoW is still the best for all types of gamers so far... Ive played (tested) every single MMO to leave software houses since Ultima Online in 1997 till now... nothing captured me like UO did but WoW came close..

Well you can pick from just about any of the MMO's right now.... they are all more or less the same game with different scenery. They all tried to improve on EQ1 but instead of improving on it they just threw out everything good about it that had some glitches rather than fixing the glitches.. so all that is left in most all of the recent MMO's is a shell of a game with no real sense of accomplishment or challenge. I'm hoping Vanguard will be the one that fixes this, but who knows. I've never played Eve online , but that game sounds different from the standard MMO.. maybe that would be a good one but I can't really say having no experience with it.

Good luck on trying to find a EQ clone. Seriously that era of EQ is over. I used to play DAOC and loved it but I realized that even that game had become outdated to a degree. A lot of the gameplay features were and still remain great but the over package is outdate. I'll be checking out WAR Hammer Online when it comes out becuase the same company that put out DAOC will be working on it. I always like keeping my options open for MMORPG's

Meanwhile though I'll enjoy AA for what it is. The combat and travel is fast the questing while the same as other MMORPG's is fun with very little grind. With 80 levels and a deep crafting system and PvP arenas, open PvP based faction combat, and open PvP regions to control I am gonna be enjoying this game for a while.

I really think though there is no MMORPG that will offer something truely new because all new ideas were once old and old ones usually come full circle to become new but with a spin and some shine. I don't even think that the technology today or in 1-3 years will be at a point to break the standard MMORPG recipe.

P.S. As for EVE well good luck. I couldn't take the mining grind or the 3+ months it would take to level to a point to have the game be playable and fun.

Who said anything about looking for an EQ clone? More like looking for a game that does the things right that EQ did right, and fixes the things they didn't do right. An EQ clone would be no better than all the cookie cutter garbage that's being put out now. I swear NCSoft just slaps new textures into a base template and boxes it up and calls it a new game. WoW was entertaining for a few months, and then died off... am just waiting for the next game that can actually grab my attention for an extended period of time the way that EQ did. I am not looking for an EQ clone.

does anyone know where i can find a video of gameplay from the players viewpoint?
like a video made by an actual player that shows how the game plays?

i'd really like to try the game if anyone has a spare buddy key or whatever. i'm pretty sure i read about a buddy trial key somewhere.
