Hi.

While many are intensely against it, or think it's a joke/moot, I use reg cleaners. I mean beyond CCleaner. Not once had a problem.

I also find, compacting, defragging/optimizing the registry helps. I have 4 apps with this function included. I like all of them. But I esp like Auslogic's offering which is free, caused AS it analyzes, you can see every individual sector in a grid unfold in the gui.

The ones in need of defragging show up in red, the others in blue. But mostly, in my case, they all (all the apps) say, registry is not fragged enough to need any action.

Try it, you will like it; U can say snake oil all U want. In my observation, it helps. Make sure you uncheck any add on boxes while installing it.

Made a screenie, but hadda do capture before the scan finished, or else it would have snapped into the report saying no need for defragging.

Actual bees keep their hives organized, compacted and defragged!

Out of curiosity what do you think is being helped or improved by using a registry cleaner?

Out of curiosity what do you think is being helped or improved by using a registry cleaner?

All outdated, useless stuff in any system should be expunged. That is my conviction, and that is what I do.

Outdated reg keys, empty keys not being exceptions.....all of it: outdated everything, useless shortcuts, ActiveX, U name it.

This, my core premise/strategy from The Get, I think, has contributed to I never have to do a clean install.

My computers are as fit and fast as when I first set them up.

You can say the registry is an exception all day long. I do what has worked well for me all along, and with no downsides.

Were reg cleaning a joke, the CCleaner guy would not have included a very conservative one, I think, from his first build.

Edit: I ONLY prefaced my original post as I did, given, this thread is about the app in question, cause I knew open and shut, someone would come along and ask what you did with the premise you clearly embrace re reg cleaners.

What I have always done and continue to do works for me. If, what you---in this case, DON'T do--- do works for you.....well, that's good.

Another Edit: Reg keys which remain after uninstalling an app, for me, a big deal. I have Revo Uninstaller. After I uninstall a given app, I run its advanced scan. It finds now useless reg keys. I remove them. I then run the file residue element and get rid of those as well.

Too bad/very sad I don't do the same re my closets & drawers, re: actual garments, handyhuman tools, supplies, STUFF; workout supplies, horticultural supplies; old/spare computer parts, etc. I wish I were similarly moved, but, alas, I am not. :$

That I also have a bazillion bottles of nail polish is also part of my being an imperfect human. I just keep a big bottle of NP solvent (nail polish is lacquer) and use it when one becomes too thick.:whiste:

Just delved and found this, tho most of those are multifunction apps:

http://consumers-guides.com/registry_cleaner_reviews.html?gclid=CMqPiYrIwL0CFWXl7AodoWEAVQ

And, now this:

http://download.cnet.com/topics/registry-cleaner

And now, this:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/149951/registry_cleaner.html

Bottom line for me: if nothing has ever gotten messed up, as is true in my case, I will go on using the ones I use.

Late Addendum:

Not only do I use reg cleaners and reg optimizers/compacting apps, I also go into the registry, both local machine and Current user and look thru all the softwares and expand many. Cause I still find worthless, outdated folders. I delete them manually. Not sure how I got it, but once found Ask Toolbar keys folder none of my reg cleaners found. Also, other things.

Not like nail polishes where you nevah know when u might just be in the mood for that blue one.:whiste:

let me ask u this,

how come when u format your system, clean install

if you run CCleaner or any registry cleaner, it finds at least 50 to 80 registry errors, most of them pertaining to Microsoft.NET framework 1.0

so you are saying that a freshly formatted system has bugs out of the box?

I think not.

I've learned my lesson to never touch anything which deals with the registry, even registry defraggers, what is it relly defraggin? a few KB of registry file? not gonna make any difference

just my 2 cents but do what you feel works for j00

Pls know, I have had no such experience. Perhaps, cause I don't do clean installs on a regular basis, as I shared. I also never ran a cleaner right after doing one.

I get and respect you disdain reg cleaners and so, not use them. I am sure my experience/position is clear by now.

If ever I should have an issue using one, I will delve.():)
