Auria 2560 not at Microcenter anymore? EDIT: They're back

chucky2

Finally went to buy the 2560x1440 27" Auria at Microcenter, out of stock locally. Bought it online, went through, then they cancelled the order.

Anyone got a line on cheaper (but good) 2560 panels available from US distro?

Update: As others have said in the thread below, going by Microcenters online stock quantities doesn't work well. If you need to know for sure, call and get someone to actually check their stock. I had much better results that way.

I noticed at the Cambridge store, before they disappeared, everyone was a open box. It probably became to much of a hassle if everyone was going to return 1 or more. Which it seems was the case.

Yeah, on the notify list for that one. Thing is, this is my bros Christmas and B-day present, and his bday is on 2/03...so if I don't have it for him it'll suck somewhat. Oh well, can't go back in time...

I think they're just VERY slow to restock.

At the Tustin Store here in Southern California, there was a few month period where there were none on the shelves. Then a few weeks ago...BAM! A grip of them showed up.

I was going to get an Auria but every time i was at the one in Westmont they had 3 new and 8 open box. i just went with a U2713HM. no regrets whatsoever. Yes its more expensive but there are deals out there to be had.

At $700, I have no doubt that isn't a really nice monitor. But I could get two Auria's (one for my bro, and one for me) for what that Dell is going for; not quite two, but, darn close.

Unless there's some great promo codes out for that Dell, it still seems like the Auria/Monoprice/Overlord is the way to go for those of seeking "budget" 2560 class monitors.

Checked with them already. Nothing until early March is their estimate - their response time was amazing though...like, immedate e-mails. I just may go with one of these to support them.

Or you could wait a few years and these will be cheap as regular monitors since their manufacturing costs aren't actually any higher.

That's what I'll do for myself. Personally I'm hoping "4K" prices come down (relatively) fast and I can get one of those instead. My bro though needs a new monitor, so can't really wait that much longer. Maybe he'll be OK with March (he might just have to be), but if I can get him one of the $400 options before that, I will.

I think that's right. When I bought one at the Fairfax VA store about 2 weeks about they had about 15 boxes of them sitting on the sales floor. Must have been recently restocked.

After buying the monitor, I asked a manager if I could inspect the monitor on their test bench because the monitor is a bit notorious for either being decent out of the box or having clearly observable defects. He was very helpful and referred me to their tech support area. The tech guy had the monitor powered on at a test bench within minutes. He told me other people had requested the same procedure.

Well, turns out I should have been more accurate:

The 2560 Auria is not available at the IL or MC Web order (OOS, no backorder) locations. Choosing other stores from their dropdown I can see that some of them have many sitting in stock. Hmmm...road trip to OH?

Ffffuudddgee!! Person at MC let me know on Thursday that their stocking occurs Tues/Thurs/Sat, and that their website is updated the next day usually.

So I log on today, and shazam!, 3 in stock! I do the reservation thing, wait the 15 minutes, and....reservation cancelled, not in stock. Even though, it said 3 then 2 in stock on their website still.

Call, they check the backroom, and then give me some explanation on what happened. Not sure I really buy it, but, I have no real choice. Back to stalking their website Sat.

Don't EVER go by their website stock ticker. That thing is notoriously out of synch, not even sure who updates it but that person (or machine) should be fired. At this point, I just call em for a quick inventory check (however, even that seems flaky) but if they have it they would at least hold it for me.

Last time I had an issue was with buying my GF an i5 3750k. I wanted to get on the deal buy CPU save $50 off board, check online to see 0 i5's in stock. ZERO!. I call up, guy on the phone tells me they have over 200 in stock. HAHA.

Went down, and picked it up.

That makes me wonder if I should call up the Westmont location, who has been at zero for a while now, and see if they're really at zero. Good info, thanks for sharing it!

Last time I visited the Tustin, CA store a week or two ago they had like 80+ units...all new and no open boxes.

Well, turns out I called the Westmont store. They got one today that isn't on their website yet, but, it's a Refurb/Open Box. She told me to call next week on a couple of the days, shipments should be in by noon.

Crossing fingers...

One warning, like many of the catleaps the power brick tends to get rather hot, I had to place mine on top of my desk where the ceiling fan would blow on it to keep it from overheating.

I was fortune enough to get a great Auria 2560 27" from my Microcenter. My power brick is warm, but not hot, and I keep it right behind the monitor where there is no air circulation..

Even if the power brick gets warm, wouldn't the power brick be *designed* to operate at that warmth level? I haven't heard anything about the Auria power bricks having problems, and the fact that it gets warm I don't think indicates that there is a problem.

However, there were some rumors I saw that some power bricks were failing when you tried to use a cheap Korean foreign 240V power brick on a US 120V power source? I doubt that Auria would have this mistake in their power bricks?

Update:

Well, I took advice in this thread and called and got them to do a stock check yesterday. Turned out the website had 3 listed (just like the first time I went through the web order), but when I called and she checked, they had 18. So, went and got one.

First: Power brick does get quite warm. Not sure what that means long term, but, it's not sizzling hot. That being said, it's probably 68 or something in my roof, and the power brick is sitting on my metal computer case in the open air. I wouldn't not want to bury this power brick under/in something that'd insulate it, especially during the warmer months.

Next: No dead pixels that I can see (tested it at store after buying). Playing BF3 maxed out (7950) was like almost playing a new game. I had no clue my green pushed 19" CRT at 1600x1200 was that off visually. I'm seeing so much more in the game than I ever did before...my accuracy is actually for sh1t, as I'm used to holding here or there, leading so much, and it's just totally different. Crazy...

Even Crazier: I'm thinking if I can get another one of these this week that is pixel perfect, I might just keep the one I've got on my desk that was originally for my brother, and give him that second one.

Yup, love this monitor! Although my 7970 drives most of what I play very well, I'm probably going to pick up a second card to help out hehe 😎
