Aureal Vortex 2 win2k users, what drivers do you use?

Do you use the standard win2k drivers or the last beta ones? Do the beta ones improve anything? Thanks for your time.

I use the latest beta drivers. They work perfectly fine. So did the drivers that came with Win2k. The beta drivers provide stuff like real midi support, the equalizer, etc.

As I typically save my games for WinME, I use the standard stuff for Win2K.

anyone know where to get working drivers for a vortex 1 card for win2k? tried everything still doesn't work. i finally resorted to getting a SB Live 5.1 but i still like my vortex better.

Seriously, I used the beta drivers for a while, but nothing made it work in my PC. When (if) you do upgrade your card, skip the Live series and get a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. Sound is MUCH better then the either the Live or the vortex2 I had

U need to use WPCEDIT program and change a hex setting. That is the fix for getting sound using vortex1 and 2 sound cards in win2K systems.

I agree. I got tired of struggling with it, and slapped a SC in my rig, and have been happy ever since.

I had the same problem

Yeah...change the hex setting (in WPCredit and save it in WPCRSET- for more info go here). Also, I dunno, I used the generic drivers that came with W2k with that tweak. The sound was lackluster on my Aureal Superquad and I was sick of putzing around (my printer still didn't work either- one of the reason i reinstalled windows) so I never tried the beta drivers after I got the sound to play for more than like 4 seconds. I would imagine that the beta drivers would be better than the windows ones.

I plan to try W2k again in a week or two- after I get my printer problem resolved and find out whether beta drivers and the tweak result in sound that is the same as in Win9x with the card.

i'm using the 2559 beta's. it *works*... but that doesn't say much. a3d doesn't work.. dunno bout eax tho. You need drivers to get the optical out working if your card has it.

one big problem i have is it won't stay in 4 speaker mode if i reboot
