We really don't hear much in the media about what's going on in Iraq. It seems explosions and casualties are newsworthy, but how the people are - all those things people say we'd like to see, less homelessness and fewer refugees, more prosperity and freedom - isn't. Same for Egypt. If someone starts shooting, we'll hear that.

This month, 66 U.S. service members were killed in Afghanistan. According to The Associated Press that makes August the deadliest month in the nearly 10-year-old war.

That's because those things are not our problem. The only thing that most Americans care about (myself included) is getting out of Iraq while wasting as few American lives and dollars as possible. The Middle East will always be one big shithole inhabited by backward barbarians.
