Audiovox SMT5600 or wait for new Symbian Phones?

my cell phone is half functional after i dropped it the other day. i have the option to purchase a new phone now or use this one until the new symbian phones come out in the next couple months.

I am currently leaning on the audiovox smt5600, but have also heard that the symbian os is better since i use a mac.

anybody have opinions?

it's better because you use a mac? Or is it better because you have a mac and know how to navigate that? What makes you think the symbian phone would be better than the audiovox? The audiovox should do fine with the mac: http://www.pocketmac.net/

i understand there is 3rd party software to help me sync. I've just read that symbian is open source and a lot of third party apps, syncs easier. i was looking to purchase the new nokia's coming out in 1st quarter 06. not sure i want to use a broken phone for so long though.

I had the Ericsson P800 for a few months. It was Symbian based and I guess it was ok, but I only found 1 program that I used regularly. Most of the apps designed for them are really badly done and unstable, so I wouldn't let that be much of a purchasing decision.

With the Nokias coming out on Symbian though, apps might improve.

I have the Motorola MPx220 which runs the same Win mobile version that the Audiovox does and I absolutely love it. It can do anything and be anything. With a mini-SD card it's an MP3 player, it's a bluetooth modem for my bluetooth PDA when i'm traveling, and my PDA when I don't feel like carrying my Ipaq. The Audiovox does all the MPx220 does so that's my reccomendation.

I just got the Audiovox SMT 5600 2 weeks ago and i fuggin LOVE IT...the screen is bright at night but kinda hard to see in shining sun.

But at anyrate...i compared the motorola version side by side at the store and read the reviews on each i chose the Audiovox. I'm impressed by the features of the phone and its capabilities of bluetoof and beaming data from a computer to a phone. If you're looking for a phone that can do it all but can live w/o QWERTY then the SMT 5600 is for you.

hmm also the buttons are kinda hard to press cuz they're so small but thats only thing i really dont like...the phone is very light for a smartphone and slim. I got the phone brand new for $200 on cingular for a ONE year contract...i did it was a pretty good deal from my friend.

There's refurbs on Cingular.com NOW for $30!! If you're considering it, GO GET IT NOW before they're gone. Incredible deal. I might get one too. My 1-year contract is up and I'm eligible for rebated again... but this isn't rebates, just flat $30.

besides i hear you have 2 weeks to get out of your contract and get your money back if you dont like their service or the phone...good luck!
