Also been leaked for a while too, and it's even more pitiful than their first effort.

Why are all these 'supergroups' (IE audioslave, velvet revolver) content with releasing one or two passible tracks and an entire CD of filler? What happened to Cornell? Morello?

I expected you to say that. Always need to be antisocial and counterculture.

i dont know either one of your taste in music...but this is the exact reason i hate to give my honest opinion of music. im always considered some kind of elitist snob whenever i suggest that an artist isnt really doing their best work or that they, in fact, stink. then i get some line about being contrary for no reason whatsoever.
so lets get this out of the way
1. im not pretending to be important
but
2. i agee there is way too much filler these days. the art of making a good album is long gone. this is no exception.

At least some people know what I'm talking about.

Morello used to be an innovator, you can't tell me your mind wasn't blown on RATM's first CD when you heard that... now it's like, verse chorus, verse, wah solo, crappy soft lyrics, rinse, repeat.

Cornell is still talented but like, no where like he used to be, I know he can still hit those high notes, it just sounds watered down and generic.

I guess my opposing view of subjective materials make me 'counterculture,' I can live with that grossly idiotic statement 😉

well, i could rant about the use of "counterculture" in 2005 but i will leave that to one of ATOT's many beats.

You are correct in that it's somewhat dangerous to provide an honest opinion because you step on someone's toes regardless. This does not stop me though, as I know music is totally subjective and just laugh when people like that reply to what I say. Don't let that stop you from expressing how you feel.

The full album has also surfaced in mp3 recently. (non stream) Anyways. I saw them last night. Let me say this, WITH THE COVERS the show was easily 9/10. Without the covers? Uhh... 5/10? I mean... the only good song on the album is Your Time Has Come. The OKAY ones are Drown Me Slowly, Man or Animal, and Number 1 Zero... I've been a fan since they were together and ratm and soundgarden and balhbla. But this cd really is just not too great. Be Yourself? COME ON, that's a little too much.

ANYWAYS, the show (in san francisco) was great. Opened with Your Time Has Come... played some covers. If you guys didn't know, i'll list what they've been playing. RATM songs = Bulls on parade (instrumental) straight into Sleep now in the fire, Killing in the name of. PEOPLE WENT NUTS, very awesome. The Soundgarden covers = Spoonman, Outshined, and Black Hole Sun instrumental. Seems like they're covering up the weak songs with covers... anyways. Still a damn good show.

Cornell is just as good as he ever was

Um, no. Go listen to Badmotorfinger, Euporia Morning, or Superunknown. You know what, just listen to Euphoria morning. Then compare. Cornell is a shadow of his former self. Still better than 99% of the crap out there but still nowhere near as good as he used to be.

That said, the only song I've heard off this album is Be Yourself and frankly I thought it sucked. I did like their first album, though so I'm holding out a bit of hope for this one.

I've heard these albums, I own two of them. I don't think Cornell has gotten worse, he is just changing his style. To compare something like Badmotorfinger to Audioslave (the album) is pointless.. he is fitting his vocals into two different styles of rock.

holy sht they've been covering their own songs? that sounds badass

too bad i'm not seeing them when they're in LA =(

If by changing his style you mean narrowing his range and making his vocals way more vanilla then I agree. The simple fact is a rock stars voice doesn't get better with age. Cornell isn't a young guy anymore and his vocals reflect that.

Don't think I'm bagging on Cornell. I'm a hug Cornell fan and think he's easily one of top three most talented mainstream rock (includes all related genres) vocalists of the last couple decades. He just doesn't have what he once did, though.

No that isn't what I mean. Compare something like "Like A Stone" to "My Wave." This is what I'm talking about.. in Soundgarden he was almost always screaming the lyrics while in Audioslave he is much more mellow. I don't think this reflects a diminished voice, but an adaptation to the style of music Audioslave is playing.

Not to just rely on my opinion that he is purposefully sounding different, but if you hear a song like "What You Are" I think it shows that he is still capable of using his Soundgarden-style singing voice as well as his new mellow tone.

Album sucks compared to audioslave's previous one... or maybe I have to get used to it.. I dunno... it sucks so far :|
Did I mention that I still listen to Like a Stone and I am the highway... nothing on the new album even comes close to those 🙁 :|

yeah i listened to it about 20 times, it's OKAY, but nowhere near as good as their original

be yourself sounds like like a stone

and nothing even comes close to i am the highway

You are right... I listened to it late last night before I was going to sleep so I couldn't really get the 'feel' for it. After listening to it a couple of times again today, it got better but again, there aren't any awesome songs that stand out like 'Like a Stone' or 'I am the Highway'

Although, I like Heavens Dead... that song is pretty deep.
