Thanks!

I loved Cornell's solo CD, Soundgarden, and Temple of the Dog, but haven't really gotten into the first Audioslave album. So I definitely wanted to give it a listen before buying it.

:music: say hello to heaven :music:

Also been leaked for a while too, and it's even more pitiful than their first effort.

Why are all these 'supergroups' (IE audioslave, velvet revolver) content with releasing one or two passible tracks and an entire CD of filler? What happened to Cornell? Morello?

I think you're in the minority.. an entire CD of filter? The first album had Cochise, What You Are, Show Me How to Live, Getaway Car, Set It Off, Like A Stone, Shadow on the Sun etc. (with at least 5 major radio hits off the top of my head). On this album I like Your Time Has Come, Be Yourself, Out of Exile, Doesn't Remind Me, Dandelion, and Man or Animal. I'll admit it seems that less of this album might make it on the radio consistently, but that's not to say the songs aren't good anyways.

If anything I think Morello has improved since being freed of Zach de la Rocha. Rage was really starting to do the same song over and over again. Cornell is just as good as he ever was

I'm listening to this at work, damn this is meant to be played loud. I liked their first album, it's definitely more mellow than this one.

I expected you to say that. Always need to be antisocial and counterculture.

I'll agree with you there. Even though it's simple I really like the one on Be Yourself, and the one on Dandelion is really good. But other than that, stuff like Your Time Has Come and some of the others I can't remember are just him playing the same note really fast with distortion. I'm just talking about the new album though, I haven't listened to their first for a while and can't remember any specific solos.

I give him credit for at least DOING them though... unlike other bands

The first audioslave album was spectacular. Violent crapolver was garbage though.

Is there a mirror for this or anything? I really need it.

Audioslave.com has the Out of Exile opening riff, Your Time Has Come, and Be Yourself. But you're still missing out big time on the whole thing and I feel sorry for you :(

Sounds like Morello's same repetitive rhythm guitar. Sure, any song has some degree of repetitivness, but Morello writes two measures, loops it, and calls it a song. His "solos" sound a bit more complex than his RATM ones, but not by much, still lots of cheesy Digitech crap.

Morello's style was passable when he was in RATM because it was more "rap rock," when a steady rhythm is all you needed, and it fit de la Rocha's style really well. Now that he's in a more regular rock band, it just doesn't cut the mustard IMO.

Timmy C still rocks it, but he's been limited by the genre they've moved to. RATM gave him more freedom to lay down some funky basslines because they weren't traditional rock, and they had more of a hip-hop/funk/rap influence. (note: just heard "Drown Me Slowly," nice work Timmy C).

Cornell has talent. No argument here.

Their drummer never impressed me, hasn't really changed since RATM. Not bad by any means, but not extraordinary.

Meh, just my opinion. I'm on track 6 right now.

At least some people know what I'm talking about.

Morello used to be an innovator, you can't tell me your mind wasn't blown on RATM's first CD when you heard that... now it's like, verse chorus, verse, wah solo, crappy soft lyrics, rinse, repeat.

Cornell is still talented but like, no where like he used to be, I know he can still hit those high notes, it just sounds watered down and generic.

I guess my opposing view of subjective materials make me 'counterculture,' I can live with that grossly idiotic statement ;)
