Audio Transfer

If I enable the digital CD playbach in the cd-rom propeeties of device manager, will I need the internal cd-rom to soundcard cable? If no is this the same as having it? Aren't there any drawbacks/issues? Quality? Oh and without the cable how is the sound transfered?

umm, u need a cable if u want to play a cd from the cdrom.
