Looking for something that will allow me to wirelessly stream music from my computer to my HT without having to turn on my TV. I can currently use my PS3 or Xbox but i dont want to have to turn those on as well as the TV (so i can see what im doing)

My receiver doesnt have network connectivity.

My sister has an older roku that did this. Had a LCD readout of what was playing on the front of it. They dont seem to make these anymore

is anything like this made anymore?

EDIT: must not be made by apple

Do you have an iPod/iPhone/Android device? There's a lot of apps that will wirelessly stream to devices (such as an Airplay device like an Airport Express cube) and display the readout on your handheld (ex. Sonos).

i will now add that i will NEVER buy anything made by apple

and yes i have an android phone and tablet but this doesnt help me get it to my HT unless i stream to it and then wire it into the AVR, and if i was going to go that route id just run a billion foot cable from the PC which is not what i want to do

the oldschool rokus had a remote that you coudl use to navigate your lib and skip through songs in a playlists and such. thats all the functionality i need.

I think the only one I've seen lately that has a screen is Grace Digital:

They have an Android app too:

If you need a display on it, that might make things difficult/more expensive. My first reaction was for you to get a Squeezebox. From there, you can install their Android app and control what you're playing via that method. I have a Squeezebox Duet which gives you a wifi controller with a nice LCD screen on it but the phone app works just as well if not better.

Some ideas:
- tablet or phone with wires -OR- FM transmitter plugged into headphone jack
- HTPC with remote control app running on PC, tablet, phone
- receiver that has own network audio (might need TV for menus though)
- buy that old Roku from someone on eBay

what about a Sonos Zone Player? I don't own one but it seems to do what you want..?

The Sonos is nice but is prohibitively expensive if you don't already have something to control it with (it doesn't come with a remote and purchasing the dedicated remote is insane). It looks like there is a Sonos app for android so you might have that aspect covered. Note that the main Sonos device itself doesn't have a display (it's a boring box). Your display will be through whatever device you use to control the Sonos.

I have both a Squeezebox (version 3) and a Squeezebox Touch and love them. I prefer the Touch as the larger display is easier to view across a room. I also like the "touch" aspect of the screen as I don't like having to carry a remote all around the room with me. I initially used the Touch in wireless mode without any trouble but now use it in wired mode. You can use either the remote that comes with the device or an android app (which I haven't personally used so I cannot comment on it).
