Audio Recording Interface

I am looking to put a sound card in my yet to be built computer and I want to be able to do audio recording with my guitar. Can anyone suggest a good card for around $150? I really have no idea what I'm looking for, but I have a friend that does it and I think it's an awesome idea. BTW I will be using Windows 7 64 bit.

M-Audio makes some good cheap interfaces, but there are dozens of other manufacturers that produce very good equipment.

You have lots of options, only somewhat limited by your budget, especially if you are willing to buy used or manufacturer refurbished.

To adequately address your question, you will first need to identify what kind and what number of mics you plan on using, other equipment you plan on using with the type of connectors required, DAW, other software, inboard or outboard, PCI/USB/Firewire/MIDI, etc.

With a guitar you should be looking for Hi-Z capability.

I suggest doing a bit of reading here, and it would be worthwhile to read the entire series of instructional articles there as well -

I also think you would get a better dialogue by going to -
