Ok so which is better or are they the same

Soundcard --> optical cable ---> Stereo reciever

Computer ---- > ethernet ---> router ----> Xbox XBMC ----> optical from xbox to stereo

huh???

best non-prosumer solution:

Audigy 2 -> optical cable -> THX speakers

Xbox -> optical cable -> thx logitec speakers

it completley depends on the soundcard... integrated sucks (except nvidia which is pretty good)... audigy2zs ROCKS

What's with THX?

FFactory0x, I've never heard of the second method you're talking about (except I think I remember you mentioning it another thread you made).

I think it would be your best bet to get an AV-710 or HDA X-Mystique to do digital optical to your receiver.

EDIT: oops, soundstorm. Just stick with that directly to receiver I think.

MP3's are sh!t quality anyoway, so it won't matter too to much, but soundcard, optical, receiver is way to go!

THX is Bullsh!t for most part (well, their THX processing is). Meant to make sure all THX equipped theaters sound the same, not sound the best.

Ohh Well basically my xbox is networked to my computer. I have the AV optical pack for it that goes to my receiver, so basically on my tv i can view all music and stream it over the network

Kind of depends on his mp3s, doesn't it?

That makes them a bit better then 128 mp3, but still no where near an actual lossless compression format.
I stream audio/video over my xbox too via the HD pack, but still not the same as straight from card to receiver.

Let's see. Better signal since it is going thru less compenents. Player on PC is probably of higher quality then XBOX software player for starters.

Itll be the same thing.

Either way its a direct optical connection from the player to the receiver. Both are basically soundstorm.

I prefer xbmc cause itll be on your tv, which im guessing is where your speakers are.
