Audio Problem

About a week ago my sound went out on my computer. I though it was the speakers that went out so I bought new ones and they still don't work. I can hear like static when I turn them up but no sound. The only thing I can think of is the sound card is bad.

I checked it in control panel and it seems ok. I can't think of anything else that it could be except for the card. Is there any way to test it to see if it is bad?

You can test it in DXDiag, but if it's just the Output connector being bad I don't think that'll tell you much.

You can try a visuall inspection of the card to see if anything looks burnt or shorted.

If you're handy, you may also want to check if maybe a Solder spot came loose and has lost connection.
