Audio Interference

I've got my PC plugged from my soundcard (SBLive) into my stereo for gameplaying, etc.
In order for gameplay to be audible ... the stereo must be turned up to around level 18 (Max for the stereo is 50).
The problem is that I get all sorts of "interference" or background humming when the audio jack is plugged into the back of the PC.
When I unplug it, the stereo is silent, but plugged in I get an annoying hum.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it?

Sounds like the plug maybe defective...? Also what input are you plugging into on the stereo unit...?

i also have my stereo as my speakers...the software volume (the speaker in the task bar) i found you can max that, and keep the stereo volume lower, instead of having the software volume low, and the stereo higher gets rid of some buzz...not sure if this is the problem your talking about, have you tried it with alternate settings?
