Someone needs to take them (audiophiles) back to the bench so they can take a peek under the cover of their amplifier. You may be surprised at what you see wiring wise between final stage and output terminals!

Heck we pulled the cover of one of our Yorkville LS1208 subs (2000W 18" scoop pro audio) and found the wiring inside to be quite wimpy. I'll find a pic and post it! Yet the SJO running between these stacks and the K10 amplifiers (12kW 2Ω) is 10 gauge for seventy feet! :D

The longer the run, the thicker the wires you do actually need.

10AWG wire has 1.018ohm/1000'. So 2x70' (a complete circuit) would have about 0.14 ohms of resistance, and with a 2 ohm load that means that the wire is sucking down 7% of the power from the amp.

For reference:
14AWG wire is 2.575 ohms, and 22AWG is 16.46 ohm.

So for longer runs, it does make sense. The shorter the run, the less sense it makes. And in an amp, you're talking a couple inches. It is diminishing returns though. In the above example, going to a 6AWG wire would result in getting 97% if the power instead of 93%, while going to 14AWG would result in only getting 82%. 14 to 10AWG isn't a massive increase in price, even if it is significant. But 10 to 6 is.

I'm well aware of the drop and often discussed yet rarely understood damping factor!

The point is people get uber heavy gauge wiring yet ignore the fact their speakers/amps have very inexpensive copper wiring of shorter gauge. ;)

My favorite are the unshielded interconnects with complete disregard for impedance matching. :awe:

Sounds like drugs, we need a twelve step program for this.

On another note that reviews are priceless, now all the need is equally expensive wiring from the box to the outlet.

How about the wiring inside the receiver/amp or your high end 8 track tape deck?

Wattgate makes good stuff...most of my cables are made with their products, or Oyaide.

I just bought 20 so I can rewire my house. They will be useless without the proper cabling. Anyone know where I can buy 10awg solid gold BX cabling? Also need gold plated breakers to go with that.

Also wonder if they have GFCI versions of that plug. :D

There are 2 receptacles. By definition it cannot be Audio Grade!
