Audio for my Jeep

Okay, so my Jeep needs some new speakers, pretty badly. The headunit is a crappy Blaupunkt ACS2500. The speakers in the front are stock 5.25" I think, but the ones on the rollbar are Blaunpunkt P652c 6.5" speakers- these ones on the rollbar are contained in Rubbermaid plastic containers. I want to upgrade all four, as they all suck. When turning the bass to 7 on the headunit (and just testing it, I wouldn't keep it there anyways probably), the speakers sound really..hollow almost. You can only hear the mid-range audio clearly, and they just suck. I know the speakers suck, but the headunit is crap too, but I won't be replacing that until later.

So, what speakers are recommended? I don't need them to be awesome, or really expensive. I'll probably buy the front 5.25" speakers first, and I was looking at these: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-vIR7ulM...KFC-1362S.html . They seem alright for the price, mixed reviews but most car audio seems to be, and people seem to be looking for subwoofer type bass, which I'm not (though I do like bass in certain songs). I believe there is a 6.5" pair similar to that, which I might also get to match afterward if I like the quality of these.

Suggestions? (It's a Jeep CJ7 if that matters)

jeep speakers for the back, infinity makes some good stuff. you will probably want to get composite cones instead of paper incase you have the top off and they get wet.

Expensive? I want at least good speakers, from a name like Kendwood or Pioneer (low to mid I as I understand), but I just really can't throw that much money into it. If I had the money I'd get something like Alpine.

infinity stuff is really not too expensive. the jeep speakers are only around 200... i hope you are not planning on reusing the rubbermaid.......

Generally the companies that make great head units make pretty dumpy speakers, I'd stay away from speakers by pioneer, kenwood, sony, even alpine. Infinity makes good budget speakers that go head to head against the others as far as price. If you want more bass you're going to need a sub or you'll need to lower your expectations, I don't think there's enough cabin gain in a jeep for door speakers to deliver good bass.

What "Jeep speakers"? From what little I know, there are sizes of speakers and perhaps enclosures made for specific vehicles- not vehicle specific speakers. And I am not paying $200 for speakers. And yes, I might be re-using the plastic containers, and there seems to be nothing wrong with them, so why change unless I need to perhaps make new ones?

I wish there were a place around here to check that stuff. Like a real car audio shop- spose I can check, but I don't think there is. Does BB have it on display? I'm not looking for subwoofer bass, I'm looking for bass that doesn't sound like utter shit- I'd get a video of mine but I don't think it'd come out any kind of quality. The speakers in my Amigo were fine with my crappy Durabrand headunit, but then again cabin gain- you mean since it has soft doors and top? The Amigo had a soft back, but hard everything else- usually had the window down- how much does the soft/hard affect it?

Actually thought about investing in one of these, http://www.tuffyproducts.com/p-104-033-deluxe-stereo-security-console-10-wide.aspx , but I am not going to put a lot of money into the Jeep as I'm not sure how long I'll have it.

rubber maid boxes? may as well just skip the rear speakers and put all your money in the front speakers if you want to re-use them.
the jeep speakers come in an enclosure that bolts to the roll bar, check out the link that was already posted. if you want help from us you need to follow the links provided.

you wont spend 200 on the speakers/enclosure but you will spend 250 on a console?

one of the major reasons they sound like crap is that there is no enclosure for the speaker, of course a rubber maid container will sound "hollow" at lower frequencies.

What are you trying to accomplish with this?

By your posts it sounds like you scraped together all the cash you had for the initial buy of a majorly neglected vehicle and now want to make it concours ready for walmart pricing.
