Audio device not found

Hi.

Yesterday all was well - no problems whatsoever.

Having changed absolutely nothing, upon bootup today, windows 7 gave me an installing driver prompt and then a driver install failed warning. This was for the realtek high definition audio.

Then i downloaded the latest realtek driver, and installed that, restarted, and still no audio.

No audio devices are listed in the device manager and the volume icon in the taskbar is crossed out saying 'do audio output device is installed'. I cannot install the driver since the audio card isnt even detected anymore.

This is on a 1yr old HP DV6680ea laptop.

Any ideas?

Thanks
