Audio cable splitter

do you know where to get an audio cable splitter (like the one from the cdrom to the sound card?) a guy needs to plug in 2 drives to a sound card w/ only 1 hole. while we're on this topic, why do some boards require that you use this cable and some do not?? that has always puzzled me.

You can't just use plain old wire to do this.

I don't think it's some boards that require the audio cable. I think the OS you are using determines whether you need it or not. Some (at least Windows 2000, XP) support digital playback over the data bus, others do not.
