Right now I am using my MSI onboard sound with 5.1 speaker setup. So far I am happy with the sound quality. Now I am thinking of upgrade to Audigy2 cause my motherboard doesn't come with firewire port.

I have to decide between regular and plantinum version, I am interested in the optical out in the Live Drive. Right now I am playing streaming video thru my receiver with S-Video and RCA L/R. Does anyone know/confirm that Audigy2 allow me to output normal audio signal (not PCM or DD, just plain L/R stereo) thru optical port?

Thanks.

OK, what about the RCA out? Doesn't it only output the DD format or regular stereo signal as well just like optical out. Thanks.

I couldn't get the digital sp/dif out working with a miniplug to toslink converter. However, it works fine with a mini-plug to coaxial digital cable (RCA header) to coax-in on my receiver. And yes, it will output both analog and digital signals to the receiver, just make sure you set sp/dif passthrough in your hardware settings.

a coaxial digital out will not output an optical signal or vice-versa. rca out is the same format as optical, just in a different medium.
