I was wondering if the Audigy sound card is worth buying considering what I do. I don't play any games except maybe an occasional game of starcraft. I do listen to music but only through earphones. Here is my current setup.

1.4 TBird
ECS K7S5A (using onboard sound and LAN)
512MB Crucial PC2100
80gig Seagate Baracuda IV
12X Generic DVD
Liteon LTR-16102B
SK-6 + Delta
Crappy Case
GeForce2 Pro

If you dont play many games (the excelent 3d sound effects would then be useless to you) and you only listen with headphones (the 5 or whatever channels of sound would also be useless) then dont get it. It MIGHT only help you when you watch DVDs. It would help take stress off of the processor though, but it doesnt look like that is a problem.

No, if u don't play any games that utilize the 3-d surround sound and EAX, then u might as well go with Santa Cruz.

Ditto - If you don't play games, don't listen to music, and don't have surround sound then just buy a vanilla SB live if you have some $$$ burning a whole in your pocket...

Nop! Save your money...contrary to what others might say, in your case the onboard sound, sounds plenty adequate for what you use your PC for...

You may want to invest in the OEM SB Live 5.1- $35ish, or Philips Rhthmic Edge (PSC 703) $30 at Best Buy after $10 MIR. Music will sound better and the CPU hit will be less.

boo, i dont think ima get a sound card just yet, maybe later when i have some extra cash left. Ima getting a new case and heatsink (to add to my collection, the VOLCANO 7, O BABY, i luv the blue and the 80mm) and maybe a raid setup. after that, i'll consider getting the sound card.

Well, just so you know, the Fortissimo 2 sound card has a dedicated headphone jack and the sound quality is great.
