Audigy + Linux?

This question is sort of half hardware and half OS. I'm a Linux newbie (As in, I installed this afternoon!) with SOME limited experience with linux. Mandrake 8.1 made things very easy, and has held my hand pretty well throughout my installation.

However, I've run into a problem: It won't work with my Audigy. Well, it won't recognize it, specifically. All I want out of my soundcard is basic functionality: Mp3 and CD playing. Does anyone know how to get it? I'm thinking that since the Audigy and Live 5.1's are so similar, I could use a Live 5.1 driver, but would that mess anything up?

i believe it uses a totally different chip (it has to...??), so the driver would have to be different. but since i dont use an audigy, i can tell you no more 🙁

good luck 😀

Unfortunately, there's no Audigy support for Linux at the moment. The chip is similar, but different enough that it doesn't work with the old emu10k1 module - not even for the basics. I would imagine it will be supported eventually, but Creative generally isn't too cooperative about releasing information, so be prepared to wait.

🙁

Thanks for the info, at least.

Whoops... take that back. New OSS drivers (3.9.6b) were just announced at linuxhardware.org that include beta support for the Audigy. Not as easy as the kernel drivers that support the Live! series, but definitely a start.

This may also be a site worth reading/watching for future developments.

BTW, has anyone gotten S/PDIF out working on a Live! 5.1 in Linux?

Ya know, I tried and tried to get creative's solution working, but I couldn't get the new drivers to compile for the life of me. I'll probably give them another shot after I get sick of how the OSS drivers are all... non-free and all, but until then, OSS got my sound card working, so I'm sticking with them.
