Audigy issues with new update drivers on W2k. Blue Screen of Death!

I am actually looking into another high quality sound card to replace my audigy. I have had no issues with it until I built my new computer. I am using W2k and I updated every Windows update possible from there site. Then I did all the drivers from other websites. On my other system with a Soyo board I had all the updates installed and the card worked fine.

Antec Performance Plus 860 (3intake 80mms/2 outtake 80mms/PCI outtake)
Epox 8K5Aseries2
Athlon Xp 1600+ OC 2200+( AX-7 and SmartFAN2 176FSB at 41c full load)
Corsair PC3200 512mb
Leadtek Geforce4 Ti4400 (OC 305/625) 30,82 drivers
IBM 60gig 7200rpm
Audigy OEM
Klipsch 4.1 Promedia

Now whenever I try to update the Audigy drivers I get the blue screen of death and I have to remove the card and then uninstall all the drivers. Then put it back in and reinstall the old CD drivers. Now I can't even use my EAX on Unreal2003 because it messes up with the old drivers. So I am looking into replacing it for the Turtle Beach one that I keep reading so much about.

Do these problems sound just like Audigy drivers issues or do they seem like something else is causing it?

I would like to keep this card since I am not made of money. Would a Bios update help here? What should I do?

i have the exact same problem with my oem audigy card. BSOD if i update the drivers, and all sorts of different flavored BSOD's when i'm gaming, listening to music, anything that involves a sound. I have an epox 8k3ae, and i've heard of problems with via/sb products. I get an IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL or something like that, and a PAGE_FAULT_IN_UNPAGED_AREA. I took out the card, and used the onbard sound. Haven't had a problem since. SB is notoriously horrible with customer support, and the latest 4in1's didn't solve anything. So i guess i'll stick with onboard sound.

i'd recommend buying a different soundcard, not made by sb. Hercules makes a nice one, Fortissimo is the name i believe.

Yes thank you for your response. That is the same error I get upon boot up. Well I still don't want to but If I can't get it working in the next week , I think I will put it back into my Soyo machine and buy that VOYETRA TURTLE BEACH SANTA CRUZ card to replace it.

Why haven't you tried selling your Audigy on ebay and using that money towards a new card?

thats a good question.. i loved my audigy so much, had it for a year or so in a p3 rig. Had a dolby 5.1 reciever and some nice polk audio speakers. I'm just hoping via or sb fixes some of the problems so i can go back to my old setup. Onboard sound is convenient, but it lacks so much compared to the audigy. Btw, without the audigy, i have no other pci cards. I can get up to about 182 FSB with my 8k3ae and 1600+. Rather nice oc 🙂

I guess you can say its a driver problem considering how different the drivers act. I think there must be people with your mobo and an Audigy working considering how common the card is.

Make sure the on-board sound is disabled.

By all means if there is a new BIOS you are a candidate.

You can try the card in different slots. Avoid the one next to the AGP.

I don't know how many audigy drivers SB has put out, but maybe you can find a driver somewhere on the Internet one step back, but newer than the ones on the CD, Sometimes the newest driver has issues.

When you changed mobos, did you do a complete new install of W2K?

I had an odd work-around in a completely different setup. It didn't make any sense to me but... There were sound card settings in the game. If I left it at the default, the game would crash. If I changed it to different speakers (4.1 in your case) it worked.

Yes on board sound is disabled.

I will look into newer BIOS.

I have tried different PCI slots

Yes I did a fresh install of W2K

I would like to try other drivers but where should I look? And Unreal2003 recommends the the newest Audigy drivers to work with it.

Valent I just found some old Drivers that are newer than the ones on my install disc. They worked for me but they are only like 2 months newer than CD drivers. 🙁 Maybe they will help somewhere. My Unreal2003 still doesn't produce all the footsteps with all the other sounds going on.

Valent I just updated with the newest ones possible off there website and it is now working for me. I thought I had the newest ones already saved on my Hard drive but they were 300kb different in size. Maybe try those, but I bet you already did. Thought I would let ya know.

I've just installed windows 2000 on this system with the audigy platinum. I ran the installation CD that came with it and then update to the newest drivers available on their site. So far so good. No problems. I have a VIA chipset BTW. Hope that helps.
