SB Audigy sound quality is definitely an improvement over previous sound cards.
Games and mp3 's sound quality seem cleaner and more powerful when compared to the Hercules Gtxp.
I wouldnt say its a must upgrade ,but I nice buy if you are in the market for a new sound card. However, I have a major issue with the Audigy.
My system seems to crash frequently while installing programs and has suddenly become unstable.
I have Windows XP and an Atlon 1.33 on a Iwill KK266. Anyone else experiencing similiar problems with audigy and XP.
If I can iron out this problem in less than 14 days....my Hercules GTXP will be up for sale at $50

Let's see. KK266 = KT133A (VIA) north and 686B (VIA) south bridges. I think that pretty much says it all right there. Ditch the VIA-based mobo, or get rid of the Audigy. You'll have nothing but frustration otherwise. With K7S5A for a mere $65, there's no reason to hold on to a sh!tty VIA-based mobo and put up with the endless array of issues.

So it's true that the new Audigy is still having problems with VIA?? Hm.... Shouldn't Creative have fixed it by now!

Everything I hear points to continued issues with Audigy and 686B, in particular. Many will dispute it, but the many users reporting trouble can't be a coincidence. I did try an Audigy on KT7A (686B) and experienced problems eerily reminiscent of SB! Live 5.1 on the same board. No matter what combination of BIOS + 4-in-1's + IRQ's + PCI slots could result in the Audigy operating properly. I have had zero problems with the same card on my K7S5A, nor my Tyan S2460/S2462 AMD duallie boards. This tells me the problems are still there...

I have an sblive xgamer 5.1 using an epox 8k7a board (686B southbridge) with 0 issues. Seems to me like most people having problems are using boards with the via northbridge. I'm getting an audigy next week :)

I'm running on a KT7A-RAID from Abit...this is a via chipset.

I have had no problems at all with my Audigy MP3.
My suggestion to you would be to update your bios.

I have read reviews from Toms Hardware Gamespot, Firingsquad and 3dsoundsurge, and only 2 of them had problems and both were fixed with bios updates.
