Got a SB Live 5.1 for using in HTPC. My audio subsystem is Onkyo 600-series amp + matching Onkyo speakers (needless to say, AT hot deal from a year ago).
I learned the hard way that SB converts all audio to 48kHz sampling rate. This is not an issue for DVDs; however, all CD and MP3's ripped from CDs are 44.1k. Sound quality takes a hit during conversion; I was really surprised it was that bad. It is noticeable in both digital (SPDIF) and analog modes.
I tried to install latest drivers, tweak the settings--no result. The DVD playback was excellent; CDs/MP3s sucked badly. The SB went back to the store; I am now using cheap TB card with optical SPDIF.
Edit:The Audigy 2 spec for ?SPDIF Out" says 48/96 kHz, no mentioning of 44.1k--most likely the bug is still there.
--just my $.02
