Audigy 2 + Windows 7 = Robot sound

I just purchased a Logitech desktop microphone because I figured that my old one was bad. I could only get "robot voice sound" / cutting in and out on my Skype calls. I'm on Windows 7 with an Audigy 2 and I have the new microphone now plugged into the microphone slot on the back of the card. However, on the skype test call it comes back all robot-ty / it cuts in and out super quickly to make the robot-like-voice playback.

How can I go about fixing this? Is it my soundcard then that might be shot or is it just another one of the glorious driver problems with creative and windows 7 now.

Hey there, I thought I'd join up and get in contact before you got sick and gave up.
I have been having my own problems with my Audigy 2 ZS for some years with skype now. I have done some further exploring and I think that the non-signed drivers supplied by creative cause most if not all of the BSOD's which occur on my system. I don't think your troubles have anything to do with your OS, or your mic - I imagine that works fine...its the card! The drivers are spectacularly awful imho. I was wondering, HAVE you had any BSOD's recently, and which version of the driver are you operating on?

This is a weak response but I wouldn't recommend using any Creative products. I gave up on Soundblasters/Audigys years and years ago. Never looked back, these days onboard is pretty good. If you need a sound card get an Auzentech non-creative based. You won't have anymore problems the rest of your days. That's how it happened for me..

Have you used any of the Audigy support packs compiled by daniel_k over at the official Creative forums? I don't know if they have a specific fix for your Skype problem, but his massaging of the installer has allowed me to use all the peripheral apps that came with with the install CD like the EQ, mixer, speaker settings. These were all broken by Creative's latest driver. Can't hurt to give it a try - I've been using his support packs for almost a year with no ill effects on my Audigy 2 (only thing that keeps me using it).

I have the same problem. Seems to be an issue with skype or windows 7 being confused with 41.5 khz / 48 khz sound devices. Changing my mic sound settings in the control panel to 16bit / 48 khz makes the problem go away (sometimes). I use the driver pack thing btw.

I don't use Skype, but I do have an Audigy 2 ZS, Logitech microphone, and Windows 7. I haven't used the microphone since I installed Win7 though. I can test it out with the Windows sound recorder if you want.

Have you tried it with a non-Skype test. That would be my first recommendation. If it sounds fine in a program other than Skype, then the problem lies within Skype itself.

i have the exact same problem with windows 7 (64) and my audigy 2 and microphone. They all work fine in my XP setup. And i am using Daniel K drivers. How hard is it really for creative and microsoft to make just one set of working drivers for their own gdmn products ? (both working decently hardware wise and with their own software) Maybe in creative they think theres no one out there with an audigy anymore ?? ....... or is it a ...conspiracy maybe to buy new creative cards (yeah right, the hell i am getting a creative product again)
