Audigy 2 Review

Am I reading this correctly that they're using Cirrus Logic's CS4382? Wasn't this suppose to be the chip used for Santa Cruz II?

Excellent review. Can't wait to get my Audigy 2 Platinum. And, I'm fortunate enough to get full benefit of 6.1 surround sound with my ProMedia 5.1 and ProMedia 4.1 speaer systems. 😉

Wow, cool. Unfortunately, I don't have the speaker system to take advantage of it, nor do I have the money to afford one. My SBLive Value card works fine. 🙂

May be worth upgrading to once it's in the $50 range...
Agreed, bring on the Audigy 2 OEM!
Yea, when it gets down to $50 or so then maybe I'll get one and move my SBLive to my parents' computer (they really could use something better than the integrated AC97). 😀

So this thing supports DVD-Audio but not Super Audio CD. Isn't SACD gaining more momentum?

Good point! I've never heard/seen a DVD-A disc. Audigy 2 just isn't worth upgrading from an Audigy 1 at it's current price.

Yes, Sony's SACD is the better format from a number of angles, though that won't guarantee success, Sony has already been down this road before (Betamax vs VHS anyone?). The problsm is that no computer hardware can read SACD's (the high fidelty track) making it rather pointless to release a soundcard capable of decoding the audio stream. DVD-A can be read by almost any DVD drive making it an easier adoption process for the user.

Yes Creative is using Cirrus Logic CS4382 DACs. Which are pretty good. The hardware guys did a great job this time.

Audigy2 is .. one awesome soundcard.. but then again I'm biased..
