My brother a few months back baught a Audigy 2 sound card, but when he put it in his computer it didnt work. it would get to about 95% complete the freeze up. After trying for about a week to get this card working including putting it in my computer to make sure the card worked (and it does). He just gave to me as an early birthday present. So anyway today after he reformated his computer, he wanted to try it again, so if it worked he could get one. So after windows was back installed we put the Audigy 2 back in his computer and loaded the drivers from the CD but at 95% again it froze the computer. he did another fromat and windows install while i went to try to find updated drivers. I found driver updates but you needed to have the orignal drivers installed from the CD to start with. If anyone knows where i can get an updated driver that i can download.

it does have on board sound, and it works. the soundbaster live is a better though. the Audigy 2 is the only card that has not worked for him. We are thinking that his MOBO might be starting to Die on us. but that is not a big deal, he was planing to get a new system anyway. we were just trying to get this card working In his system. im guessing that it is hardware related or something.

Check the Creative Labs database. I was looking through there a couple days back for a different solution, but a few times I came across problems(Install stopping after 9x%) similar to your bros. If I remember correctly, they suggest letting the computer sit for 30 minutes.

One thing I've noticed when installing Creative drivers from the CD, once in awhile the Install will pop up a window requiring you to answer a question, at least once I had the pop up pop under so I couldn't see it. Try using the Alt-Tab combo to change between windows when the Install seems locked up.

1 question: When it "locks up", is the mouse still working?

when it locks up, the mouse does stop working. I never had any pop up's when i installed the card. and i was using the same CD, but even if there was a pop up, it would still freeze before he got a chance to hit alt-tab. The freezing is happing during the "updating registery" part of the install. last time windows wouldnt even boot, He had to reisntall windows because some windows files got corrupted in the freeze.

I am thinking that the Drivers on the CD dont work for him, and when i go and get drivers from Creative it is just a driver update, you need the orignal drivers installed first, and he cant do that due to the computer freezing at 95% install. What i need i think is a driver that i can download that is newer then the one on the CD.

any other sugestions?

Make sure Anti-Virus software is disabled(could be the problem), but I'll repeat: go to Creative's website and look up the problem in their Troubleshooting section.

There is a site that has a work around not having the creative install cd. Do a search on this site, as I found it through anatech forums.

Sorry Ijust did a search and could not find it. Anyways there is a work around out there.
