Audigy 2 / M-Audio Line-In question.

I have an Audigy 2 in my current system. I plan on building a second, small form factor system to act as a receiver / Tivo / DVD player / DVD recorder / CD player / CD recorder / etc... That system will likely have an M-Audio revolution because of its smaller size.

Here's my question. I'll be hooking up a CL Megaworks 550 to the M-Audio in the small system for surround sound. Obviously I will need to hook my current system (with the Audigy 2) to the small system (with the M-Audio) to utilize the 5.1 speakers while playing games.

How do I accomplish this? Use the line out from the Audigy 2 to the line in on the M-Audio? I noticed the "Speaker settings" panel for my Audigy 2 has a "Digital Output Only" which I suspect will pump the 5.1 signal through the digital out, but how do I get that processed through the M-Audio in the other system?

You cant, the M-Audio has no SPDIF input. The best you can do is stereo from the A2's line out to the MA's line in.

^ What if I used an Audigy 2 in the small system? Isn't there an SPDIF daughter board you can buy for Audigy cards with input / output?

Here's one from Unitek.

It doesn't mention Audigy 2, but it seems odd that A2 wouldn't be able to use it too.

And if that's not doable, is there such a thing as a 5.1 speaker switch sort of like a KVM switch? (my knowledge of audio components is fairly primitive)

That won't work either, Creative changed the pinouts of all the A2's headers so nobody could use A1 stuff with them. You could buy an Audigy2 drive, but it's over $100.

^ I just noticed it says "Will not function with AUDIGY 2 Cards" in bold print. How embarrassing. 😀

Well... My only option is some sort of switch, then. There's always a hitch, no matter what I do it seems.
