does EAX sound as good as A3D yet?
It has since EAX HD. As you might or might not know, Creative now own all of Aureals Assets, so they have access to all their technology and resources, and so, intergrated the A3D stuff into EAX HD.

Aureal 3D.
It was a competitor to EAX back in the day.

It actually owned Creative back in the day, except for that whole bankruptcy/bought out by Creative part! ;) :D

Anyway, I have an Audigy and it sounds great and all, that said, Creative Labs is really a sucky company. Sure, they have the best card for gaming and what not, but they are the perfect Poster Child for how lack of real competition causes stagnation and halfassed efforts. Of all the hardware I've had over the last few years, the Audigy is consistently the most problematic piece in my recent systems. This includes previously using a Voodoo 5 5500 in WinXP using 3rd Party drivers! How Creative Labs can consistently make drivers that lose out to anonymous users on the net for a piece of Hardware that didn't even offer a Driver Source in which to work from completely boggles my mind!

AFAIC, it's time for another Aureal to come along and shake things up.

The Audigy/Audigy 2 EMU10K2 (and Live! EMU10K) DSP is basically a univesral, programmable audio chip -just add software. That's why all these 'triffic features are backwards compatible with earlier versions with slightly different peripheral hardware like DAC's and outputs and such.

CMSS 3D can be enabled with 2 speaker/headphone - I believe it is CMSS 3D 2 that has the greatest effect.

If you have an Audigy, use the Audigy 2 drivers and proggies. They are sooo much better.

SO, you're saying I can go download the latest Audigy2 drivers and expect them to work on my Audigy1 without any additional tweaking?

Actually, yes.
Its possible to DL hacked drivers that`ll make your Audigy1 act and function as a Audigy2. Including the 6.1 support. Via Digital out only though. Pretty neat huh?
I personally stay away from hacked drivers, but ive heard that it works quite well.

The non-hacked Audigy2 (Non-ZS) drivers can install manually on the Audigy1. However, the Creative Audigy2 software (ie: mixer, player, etc.) won't install, without "hacking". The latest Audigy2 ZS drivers need hacking in order to install at all, on the Audigy1.
Someone had posted a CD image of the Audigy2 ZS CD. These drivers do not work "as is", but someone else has also "hacked" these drivers, dated 7/10/2003, and are now working fine on my Audigy1.

I have been running A2 software on my A1 since last December, plus all updates since. Actually it is only the original installer and driver update installer that has to be hacked with a compatability patch while the proggies and their updates install fine without.

I just got the ZS package and will give it a go just for giggles.

From the comparison, there's no mention of Audigy 2, but only the newer series. So how do we know for sure that the Audigy 2 and 1 will support EAX 4.0? I just want the equalizer to work as the Treble and Bass alone does not do it well at all compare to the Santa Cruz.
