The reason why Top Gear haven't put the test up is because the new M3 is about to come out.

i wasnt comparing the two shows. I was comparing the reviews I posted by each show.
hence the
btw, 5th gear review > Top Gear review

I think the large grill looks great, very aggressive couple that with the POed looking headlights, and the flared wheel arches and the car looks (and is) an animal!

Also that video of the commercial, I don't think that is the B7 (2007 - ) version. The grill was different and they also said V6, and both the S4 and RS4 are V8.

On a side note, the S4 and RS4 use the same engine, the only difference I could find on the site to make up the extra HP was that the RS4 is 12.5 compression ratio where the S4 has 11.0. Interesting, kind of makes you wonder if you can just chip the S4 ... Although I imagine there are significant new parts in the RS4 engine to handle the pressure.

yea the pressing question: is the RS4 worth the 20 grand premium over the S4?
I want someone to review both and come up with a definitive answer

edit: not like I can afford either 😛

Audi doesn't really care either way. All they care about is competing and hopefully winning against BMW. The RS4 is to compete with the new M3.

Someone looking at the M3 and shopping around isn't going to like the fact that they could buy a S4 and chip it. You would have to do more than a ECU upgrade to get that extra 80hp.

B7 started in 2006.

No kidding, I would like to know as well. The RS4 just looks so much better than the S4 and A4 to me. They still look good, but I didn't know how good that car *could* look with aggressive styling.

Off topic: How about the new Audi TT. I hear there is an S-Line TT coming down the pipeline, if they can shoehorn the S4 or the RS4 engine into that :Q. I hope the RS4, because that exhaust note is to die for.

man that TT would be a beast with a RS4 engine in it. But i doubt that would ever come like that from the factory

yea its definitely not a fair matchup. but just for the sake of arguement, its the M3 CS. I think the CS version has same engine but better brakes, and CF components making it much lighter than the RS4.

it would be interesting to see what happens when the new M3 comes out.... 400hp RWD V8 vs 420 hp quattro V8

Yea, that will be the true test of the Audi and its what Audi designed the RS4 to compete with.

Rumors I've seen on other forums suggest a VR6 3.6L. Other rumors (unrelated) say in the 350 bhp ball park. These could have merit, or at least fuel theories 😉.

If it is a 3.6L they probably lifted it out of the new Passat, that pushes 280hp, which I'm sure they can. The 3.6L is only listed as 4V which I'm assuming is only 4 valves which seems awfully low, for a typical German engine. Perhaps I read it wrong, I'm not sure. Anyways it also lists a 12:1 compression ratio. So I imagine they could help it breathe (valves??) and compress it a bit more to bump up the HP.

They could just dump the 4.2L from the S4 in it as that is already 340hp.

Personally I hope my second theory is right, drop a V8 in a little car and enjoy the ride 😀

Ayup. Fifth Gear sucks enormous donkey phallus.

sadly, fifth gear (tiff, jason and vicki) has better drivers than top gear (sans the stig).

but yeah... fifth gear is dry as hell.

As was said in an earlier thread on this, CS != CSL. CSL packs on a little bit more HP out of the same engine while shedding a few hundred pounds of curb weight and adding a more aerodynamic body kit. Even though the RS4 would probably still win off the line with AWD, a 20-, 40-, or 60-on roll would be mighty interesting as would a spin around the track.

Tiff is right though, RWD is just gobs of fun. 😀

They're better drivers than TG, but as presenters they're god-awful. Needell's talking style makes me want to introduce his colon to a nuclear warhead, Vicky's giggly-girly upper-class bullshit thing is downright degrading to humans (let alone females) and the only good one out of the bunch is Plato, who still needs some fashion help here and there.

Um, the new TT should have a 3.2 V6, as I've seen the marketing information at one of our clients' (marketing company).

Oh, my bad. I was unclear, I was theorizing over the Audi RS TT or what ever they are going to call their "S-Line" TT. And yes the new TT are coming with a 2.0t and a 3.2L V6 offering.

I also agree that 5th gear is incredibly dry. Top Gear while not the fairest or the most factual reviews is incredibly entertaining.

The new TT will have the new 3.6l VR engine. The current TT has the 3.2 VR.
