Id look at a used S4s...with the B7 S4s coming out the B6s will drop price like no other.

EDIT: In case you don't know, the B6 Audi S4s are 2004/2005 models only. The B7s will be out this spring/summer and you would be able to get a B6 S4 for well under $40k.

Audi Quattro will own the BMW, although Audi has more problems than BMW...

Come to think of it this way, if you go with the BMW 540, you are getting a car that handles like a $70K+ M5. Plus the resell value of the Bimmers hold very well. Maybe I am just bais since I own a 540.

Btw how much are you going to get them for? Just wondering as I'm in the UK and prices are much more dear 🙁

i would personally take the 540. great handling plus the classic BMW look. however RWD may give you problems if you've never driven it in snow before. not that it's difficult, just different.

Triumph is a guy. Aren't you Triumph? 😕

CheapArse, thx for the info on the S4. I was looking at the prices and wondering why they were so cheap these days. Now I know.

I vote Audi and its awd if you get alot of snow and have to go hills. I have seen BMWs struggle to climb low hills in snowy and icy weather.

While I'm partial to the Audi, if you're gonna get the Bimmer, get a set of dedicated winter tires and rims. Trust me, the next time it snows you'll thank me.

NP, new S4 owners are pretty POed b/c their resale value just took a dive when Audi announced the B7 S4. They are probably going to take another sizeable hit when the B7s are actually released. You can get a used S4 in the same price range as a 540/A6. Obviously the S4 will out perform the A6, but the A6 is bigger. Even if you get an Audi, you'll need to get some nice snow tires though.

With a sticker of $50k, you'll be able to get a B6 S4 with low miles for cheap.(<$40K)

Benz/BMW suck in the snow. If driving in the snow is a huge priority, get the A4. How much are these cars running btw? Buying/financing/balloon financing/leasing?

Own it how? With persistent understeer? With extra weight? With no manual option for the V8? With it's ability to get started in the snow, and proceed to be unable to stop just like any other car out there?

They're both V8s and S4s are 6MT.

-I like the BMW 540. Black. 6 speed with the sport package. Mean looking car. One of the best sport sedans of all time. Its a well-fitting car, close and comforting..some may say a bit snug. However, reverse on these 6 speeds always confuses the hell outta me. On the BMW, reverse is up and to the left. And you have to push down, otherwise it hits 1st. If you are unfamiliar, you'll keep hitting 6th🙂 Big gas pedal...thin steering wheel, thin shifter. It feels kinda funky at first, but it all comes together. Visibility is very good.

-I've only been in the older s4s. with the v6 turbo motors. Having not actually gone beyond 15-20mph, I can't comment if its any good...however. the seats aren't for flabby butts (they pinch) is all I can say.

Totally off-topic here, but was driving the Toyota hybrid the other day....the Prius is one hell of a weird car. Its got a square key that goes into the metal buttocks on the dashboard, then you hit the start button and there is no sound...but the car moves!!!! Its got a little phallic shifter, with only reverse and drive, park is a little button you push. I didn't have this much trouble since trying to move an SMG bimmer. Its not as easy as they say it is in the magazines.
