Auction scammer using college email account

shilala

Lifer
I own a little online auction with a friend. Some kid who screwed folks out of money last year by sliding in with bogus information has showed up again using a mail.boisestate.edu address.
He hasn't hosed anyone down this time around (yet), but he was banned in the past and used a bogus name in order to gain a new account with the new email address.
In reading at FS/T I've seen threads about campus security's involvement with problem sellers.
If I contact the folks who take care of Boise Stae's email, do you think they'll shut him down?
I don't want to see the kid thrown out of school as an education is likely the only thing that will stop his lying and stealing. I would like to see his access shut down though.

He'll just be a better-educated troll. If he's deliberately, repeatedly attempting to steal and defraud, I personally would call the security on him. You might check Trollhunters first, if you're uncertain.

Are you positive it's a student there? The conferencing software we used at my school (FirstClass) had its email servers with open relays, thus allowing spammers anywhere to forge bogus accounts such as joeblow@myschool.edu

Seems pretty stupid to be using a university e-mail to scam people. Especially if he is an experienced scammer as you say

Yes. I imagine they would shut down the e-mail account. If it is a student there, they would probably take diciplinary action, which wouldn't necessarily result in expulsion (probably not enough hard evidence anyway), but something that will hopefully make him think twice about scamming/trolling.)

EDIT: BTW, how sure are you that it's the same person?

Here's the scoop on this kid...
He's not the shapest tool in the shed. He put together a deal where he'd sell stuff to be drop shipped, but didn't bother making arrangements with the dropshippers. He was selling hatching eggs and they weren't available. The folks who intended to use weren't very excited with him, either.
In the meantime, he spent the money and found himself in a crunch. He tried to make good by wheeling and dealing with some people, others he just straight out stiffed.
Here's his feedback from his last run prior to being banned.

This time around, he registered with a fake name (Cordell Klaine). Between this time and last, he registered under the name Tori Laine.
This time when he registered, he was swift enough to register with the email address coreyblaine@mail.boisestate.edu.

Like I said, not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Here's the current email thread...
Hi Corey,
Why do I have it out for you?
Check your feedback at http://www.eggbid.com/feedback/index.cfm
Your last round at eggbid got you banned. I personally spent hours dealing
with the problems associated with your poor dealings at eggbid. Hours of
talking to distraught people who were literally devasted for trusting you.
Aside from the time and aggravation you caused us and your customers, you
stiffed us for the service. To date you still have an unsettled bill.
The quality of your product means nothing when you take people's money and
deliver nothing.
The fact that you think that the way you've acted should be summarily
dismissed is more than enough reason to see that you are banned for life.
How about the fact that you used false information to gain access to a site
from which you were banned for stealing? Does having nice birds for sale
make that okay, too?
There isn't going to be an "elsewhere" for you. No one deserves to be stolen
from regardless of where you are offering your items. No one deserves to
deal with a lying cheat.
I certainly hope you'll catch on to the difference between right and wrong
one of these days. To date, you certainly haven't.
Sincerely,
Scott

Hello Scott,

Don't know why you have it out for me. Be sure to let campus security I
rasie some darn nice birds too and satisfy the persons shipped to...

Sorry for bugging you, I can go elsewhere right...

Have a wonderful day,

Corey

Hi Corey,
You've been banned from eggbid.com yet your create a bogus name and
reregister.
If I see you or your birds at the auction again, I'll let your campus
security in on your act. As a matter of fact, I think I'll just do that
anyways. I don't have time to screw around with the likes of you.
