Hi,

I've got an Aopen HX08 ATX power supply with a stock 300W power supply (that may be bad).

If I'm upgrading to a newer system (based on a P965 motherboard), will I need an ATX12v p/s or may I go with a new ATX p/s?

Also, if I need an ATX12v p/s, will it fit? Is it the same dimensions as an ATX p/s?

Thanks,

Paul

The power supplies are of the same form factor, the difference is in the connectors. the ATX may lack the P4-12V (4-pin square) connector that the ATX12V v.1.x should have. Get the one that is suited best to your system: ATX, ATX12V v.1.x or ATX12V v.2.x - all but grossly overpowered ones are the same size and the high powered ones (700W and up) are just deeper - the dimensions at the rear stay the same. The ATX12V v.2.x adds more new connector types and shifts the power output to the +12V side - this is the type you need for the newer mobos.
